Parkour self-analysis…

I’ve known for a while that I could successfully make a nine-foot standing jump. This video clip, however, is the first time I’ve been able to see myself do it… which is cool because I can now see where I can improve. My upper body is quite stiff throughout the entire jump and I don’t actually get much vertical in the middle.

Still fun to see though.

  1. Pretty impressive. Try bending your knees a little more. 😉

  2. Thanks and thanks!Hey Lissa, do you practice parkour? I’ve known for a while that I need to lift me knees more but I never knew how much until I could see myself on video. I really need to throw my arms up and back more and really arch my back… things to work on.I’m going out running this week… it’s been over two months now.VERY excited.–steelie

  3. Wow. Very impressive. If I try hard enough, I can jump…two feet. 🙂

  4. This is largely irrelevant but some of exhibition catalogues I'm cataloguing, they begin with "Parcours" and I can't help but think of you… Where does the word parkour come from?
*Very* cool that you can do that! When I'm home in November, you'll have to show me more! Yey!

  5. Parkour comes form the French expression « le parcour du combatant » which is essentially the obstacle course training done by soldiers. There is a good overview of Parkour over at Wikipedia.org.Check it out. And of course, I can show you more when you come home but remember, I’m still a newbie.–steelie

  6. Yeah, but you're a cool newbie in my books 😉 (in fact, you're the *coolest* because you're the only person I know who does parkour!)I miss you guys…

  7. Wow. Impressive jump. I don't even want to think about what'd happen to me if I tried that. Face first, nose busted. <sigh> I'm going to go get a soy latte. Who's with me?
