  1. In the Team Vox update yesterday it was announced that they were making this change. Something about "if you send your mom a PM thru vox, she might delete it thinking it's from vox and not you". I don't like the change because of the points you brought up, and also because I used to be able to search thru my gmail with "from: vox" and tag or delete all my vox comments at the same time. But, now looking at the comments I've recieved this morning in my email, some of them (like from Steve and DeWitte) are showing from vox@sixapart. But others, like you and erin*carly, are showing your email addresses. Is there a way to change it? And, where do you set what name you'd like to show as the from name? Because again, some people are showing (like you) as from steelie (just like that, lowercase s) but then some people are showing full names, first and last. I'm confused.

  2. I just got your comment and your email address… I checked and I’m pretty sure it has to do with the privacy settings you have set up in your account. I’m betting you have your email address set to be visible to either “the world” or “friends” if I can see it… of course this brings up another issue now too… your comment went right into my SPAM folder because I didn’t have your actual email address until now. If it had’ve been from vox@sixapart.com as it had been until now, I would have gotten it and it would have been filtered into the appropriate folder…Frustrating. I think we should just tell our “Moms” to not block vox@sixapart.com and everything else would be fine… *sigh*

  3. Yeah, not so sure I like the new 'feature' either… Kind of weirded out by my name and email going to people (while I have a generic vox-specific email account set up and public, I don't always have my full name out there), and having so many comments sent to my junk folder now.

  4. This is interesting. I haven't been paying attention, but I'm pretty sure comments come from Vox. Well, so far, anyway. I think I have my address visible to the world. Maybe I should change that. Now I'm curious — what do you see for me? (But yeah — I don't like not having control over who gets my last name and email.)

  5. Laurel & Jen: You’re both good… I now get your first names (usernames?) as the sender of these comments but they have the generic vox@sixapart.com address attached to them.Hmmm… I might have to rethink how I filter people for my friends and family lists. Maybe it’s not as big a deal as I thought it was… it’s just going to be super annoying to have to pay that much attention to my SPAM folder…Grrr… Argh…

  6. I have my name set as "nobody"and my email as "your friends"I guess that's why you can see my email address, and for my from name does it show as my username or my full name? But yeah, I'm having the spam filter problem, too. Ugh!

  7. Hi… Yes, the use of your Real Name and real Email address is dependent on your privacy settings. If your Real Name is visible to friends only, and you leave a comment on a blog entry of someone you haven't marked as your friend, then they won't see it. So, if you're worried about people seeing your name and your e-mail address, then just set them to not visible, or make sure that they're only visible to people you don't mind seeing them. We're watching the feedback on this feature pretty closely, so thanks for writing about it!

  8. I noticed this today too. When I looked at my inbox I almost deleted the new e-mails because I didn't know the sender. It wasn't until I opened them that I realized they were vox comments.Your comment came through my e-mail as steelie (vox@sixapart.com), but other people had their real name and e-mail addy.

  9. Erin: I only get your username “.Erin.” as the sender of the comments but I get your real email address.Pants Party: Thanks for the confirmation. I think at this point, now that (with your help) we know how to control who sees what, the biggest pain is the SPAM issue… almost half of the comments I received since the update have gone into my SPAM folder. Maybe if there were something that could be included consistently in the subject… like “VOX notification” or something actually clever. That way, regardless of whether or not it was a comment or a private message, people could create a simple email sorting rule that would always look for “VOX notification” and keep it of SPAM.Plus, on a personal-opinion note… I preferred it when people could go looking for this info if they wanted to in my profile, where they could find it if I allowed them. I’m not too fond of my personal info being given to people… I know it’s a subtle difference but it still bugs me.Just a thought.Baloo: Ditto for you, “Baloo” plus vox@sixapart.com. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

  10. I hear you… believe me. I'm already sick of having to check my Junk folder all day long. Make sure you drop a note to us via Feedback so that it goes on record!

  11. "I know it’s a subtle difference but it still bugs me."I agree.. I don't really want my info that easily acceptable.

  12. I noticed this too and thought it was odd. I've already set up a filter with my email so that anything with the word "Vox" goes into my inbox (or my Vox folder) but I find this confusing. The other way it was just far more clear. It's odd when I get email that appears to be from my embodied friends (and from whom I somewhat regularly recieve email) but are actually notices from Vox. Me no likey. And I'm with you steelie on "giving" this info to people without them consciously looking for it.
