Vox Hunt: This One’s For The Kids

Books:  Show us a great children's book.

Clifford the Big Red Dog Red is Best Pigeon Has Feelings, Too!, The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog!, The Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Chicka Chicka Boom Boom The Gruffalo Gossie

My son loves all of these books. Gossie is a book he used to want read to him every night when he was wee. There are so many others too; however, I’ve realized that one of VOX’s shortcomings is that there is no real way to find great Canadian Books! Anything by Robert Munsch is a must.

  1. We love all the Pigeon books and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. My daughter's classroom is Chicka Chicka themed this year. Have y'all read Mark Teague's books about Ike LaRue? My kids are obsessed with them right now.

  2. I used to love the Clifford series. The illustrations were always so much fun– so colorful.

  3. I have Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and think it's great. I haven't read any of the other stuff. Well, except Clifford. My nieces love him.

  4. I've been getting the pigeon books for my godson. He loves them. 🙂

  5. Yey Robert Munsch!!! He's just brilliant! By the time I have kids I want to own nearly every Munsch book there is. Love mostly the ones with Martchenko illustrations. Fantastic. I really should answer this same Vox Hunt but I'd have way too many books to talk about!

  6. Hi Neighbours!

This may sound silly, but logging into VOX this morning and seeing
these comments has made my day. I’ve been in a bit of a funk in my head
lately and haven’t felt like writing anything… not here, not on
LiveJournal, not on Facebook. Saw the children’s book V-prompt and
    wanted to share… Thanks.

Shelby: Welcome to VOX! Any friend of Jen’s is welcome in my
neighbourhood anyday. I’ve heard of Ike LaRue but haven’t seen any of
the books yet. What age are they for, roughly? My guys are pretty young
still (2y10m and 10m) so we have a lot of Dora/Backyardigans/Clifford
books. How old are your kids? My oldest knows Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by heart and usually wants the Pigeon books read to him before we go up stair to bed. I’ll be sure to check out Ike.

Lauren: I used to love the series too. It’s weird how your brain
can forget some things… I had forgotten about the Clifford series (I
know, shame on me) until Little “L” came along. One of the best things
about being a parent (or just around children as they grow) you get to
experience everything again though new eyes. It’s amazing how many
books from my childhood are still the norm for today. Good to hear from
    you. ;^)

Jen: You are sooo right. I enjoy reading most anything to Little
“L” but Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is one of my favourites to read to/with
him. I usually only get to read the first one or two words on each page
and then he takes over. He’s too cute.

Cori: These books kill me… I especially love Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus because it gets Little “L” actually listening to the words since he has to reply back to the pigeons please. Too funny…

Semblance: Ah, Sem… it was your little voice in the back of my
head that made me want to post this one today. Thanks for that. And
thanks for putting Munsch “on my map” so to speak. I especially like
reading Good Families Don’t — a lot of fun characters with different
voices — Little “L” really gets into it sometimes.Everyone: Thanks again…

  7. I now have a soft spot for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom although tonight was the first time I read it (or had it read to me). Your son rocks my world! He is one smart cookie who melts my heart!
