All-nighter number three…

Just like the title says…

I managed to stay the whole night last night and left at 6:30 AM… it’s beautiful that time of day. Luckily I wasn’t too tired for the drive home as my third Sobe Arush caffeinated “natural health” energy drink hadn’t left my system yet.

Tonight I start with a French Vanilla coffee with a Sobe-backup. That being said I don’t plan on being here at work all night… I hope to get a chunk done that I actually need to be here for, after-which I can the files home to work on. This way, once I reach the ever-popular point-of-no-return all I have to do is stumble up the stairs to bed instead of having to re-caffeinate for the drive.

Fun stuff.

All-nighter number two…

Okay… so in all fairness, I have to admit that my “All-nighter number one” was a bit of a failure. I got to work around 10:30 PM and only made it to 1:30 AM… three hours… some all-nighter. I couldn’t help it. I was so tired that I started to do the whole go-cross-eyed-and-doze-off-every-30-seconds thing. It wasn’t pretty.

So now here I sit again… with my 4-pack of Sobe Arush caffeinated “natural health” energy drinks, one already eaten dairy-free chocolate bar, one package of sesame rice crackers with complimenting tub o’ hummus, and one collection of music blaring in the background (current track: The White Stripes).

I hope it goes well… I’m getting worried about the deadline…

Jared’s last day…

Well, today was Jared’s last day at work… a sad day indeed. We had all been joking/talking about how we were going to leave early for the day, find a nice pub/bar with a nice deck, and share in a few drinks to toast Jared and give him a proper send-off…

Okay, so that sort of happened…

First of all, barely anyone was in the office — everyone was on vacation or had other plans they couldn’t cancel or we just plain didn’t ask them. Secondly, we didn’t get to leave early — we were there right until closing. I even stayed a bit later to copy some files I needed to work over the weekend [fun]. Thirdly, half of us were just too tired to make the event worthy of being called an event…

…but it was still nice. We’ll miss you, Jared. Be sure to come back and harass us. Skype for the Mac now has video* capabilities so we’ll have to figure that one out.
Have a great trip and be sure to come bug us when you get back.

*The version they have for download from the official website does NOT have video capabilities but the “unofficial” latest BETA release, which you can download here, does have it.

Feedback sent 2006-08-17…

Oh, how I wish I could use HTML to code my posts…

I understand that the point of the interface is so that people who don’t know coding, don’t have to learn it… but for myself and other hardcore Safari junkies it would be great to be able to code. I use to be able to at least code for comments but now I can’t even do that.

Is it not possible? LJ has both. Even if the default option was the rich-text editor and people were given the chance to code if they wished.

I tried Firefox and I’m not a huge fan… and it’s a pain to switch browsers just to generate a blog entry.

If it weren’t possible, I’d understand but other blog platforms all seem to be able to offer the choice and I find it frustrating that VOX doesn’t.

QotD: The Best Part of Waking Up…

What's your morning beverage of choice?  Coffee, tea, juice?  Homemade or store-bought?

My first beverage of the day is usually the left-over milk from the bottom of my cereal bowl. If I have a tea or coffee, it’s usually once I get to work, and it’s usually a Chai Tea with soy milk and sugar… sometimes coffee… depends on the night before. And that would be a French Roast or Irish Cream coffee… I like the flavoured ones — definitely not a coffee purist.

I think I’ll need a coffee tomorrow. Hopefully not.

All-nighter number one…

Well… here I sit at work, just about to embark on my first of who knows exactly how many all-nighters this week. The project I posted about in my first entry is pseudo out of control… Essentially I have this week to get everything done — EVERYTHING! I don’t even have all of the resources I need to get the entire project  done yet. One of the people who is supposed to be getting me most of the resources, informed me that I will probably receive the rest of the files tomorrow… My reaction when I heard this? “Um, excuse me. Okay, well that easy enough for you to say but I need to have the final files to the the fabricator by Friday in order to make our deadline”.

(…sorry, forgot to mention that I’m a graphic designer…)

His reaction? [smirk]+“Well, that still gives you a whole three days”. Earlier on, this same person informed me that anything beyond him getting me the files is my problem. It’s my job to “work my magic” to bring the entire thing together… AWESOME!

Let the night begin…

QotD: Something to Believe In

Do you have any tattoos? If not, if you were going to get inked, what would you get?

Yes, I do have a tattoo… It’s of the number sixteen in roman numerals — xvi — and it’s on my right shoulder.

I love the number sixteen… well, it’s more like it defines a part of me. My life started at 3:16 AM September 16, 1976. My first name and last name together had sixteen letters. I have used sixteen as my number for anything sports / competition related for as long as I can remember. My wife and I started seeing each other on June 16, 1996, were engaged June 16, 2000, and married June 16, 2001. We both liked our last names enough to want to keep them but both wanted to have the same name as our children, so we decided it should be hyphenated… Our last name now has sixteen letters in it.

The tattoo itself was a gift from my closest friends for my 22nd birthday. We all went out for dinner and they handed me a card with enough money for the tattoo… to the penny :O)

My tattoo is as much a part of me as the number sixteen is. My life began with the number sixteen, has been guided and crafted by the number sixteen, and I’m sure it will somehow all end with the number sixteen. And I’m good with that.

Beyond the significance of the number, my tattoo will forever be a reminder of close friends, and how important they are to me.
