Wondering if I can manage to read… ONE BOOK PER MONTH!

ONE PER MONTH, you say? Pretty pathetic, I know. Truth is, I’ve never been much of a reader and I’ve only recently started to really enjoy it.

It’s a bit difficult “getting into it” so late because I’m an almost embarrassingly slow reader or, at least, not nearly as quick as I’d like to be. So, I think the goal of one book per month is a reasonable, and not entirely laughable, benchmark for my new hobby. Ideally, I’d like to read at least one chapter per night which should, by all accounts, get me through more than one book every month. Alas, I have too many thing I want to do and/or keep putting off so I’m trying to schedule it all in… somehow.

Now, I just need a place to track books read and find new recommendations.

  1. I’ve heard that http://www.goodreads.com/ is a good online place for recommendations. If SciFi and Fantasy are your thing try the Sword and Laser podcast (swordandlaser.com). Some authors: Contemporary fiction – Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, Choke, Survivor and Invisible Monsters), historical fiction – Patrick O’Brian – the Aubrey-Maturin Series (almost two years of reading there at one book a month); Steig Larsson – the Millenium Trilogy; John Irving (A Prayer for Owen Meany, The Cider House Rules); The Kite Runner (F.N. Amazing); Light mysteries – Robert B. Parker; The “His Dark Materials” series is a killer youth series.

For any genre novels (scifi, fantasy, etc), starting with the youth novels is a great way in. Happy reading.

    1. Cool! Thanks for the recommendations, mister! I’ve been meaning to read “Fight Club” for some time now and it keeps slipping my mind. Are you on Goodreads.com too? I’ve heard others recommend Shelfari in the past but have tried neither.

Ideally, I’d like to sign up for just one and not have to switch later but seeing as I haven’t actually read a huge number of books, I could always sign up for both and see which one I like better.

      Cheers! ?
