Question about viewing videos on VOX… input appreciated…

[Okay… I’ve reworked this a bit since the first time I wrote it… title included. I hope it makes more sense now]

When you go to watch a video post on someone’s VOX, how much or how little does it bother you when the video doesn’t start playing right there in the person’s blog, but instead launches a new window and plays at the video-sharing site where the video was originally posted?

There are better quality video hosting sites than iFilm and YouTube out there that are not VOX compatible but are compatable with other blog platforms (that allow unanamous comments — which is why I use them too). Instead of having to upload videos to multiple video sharing platforms to satisfy multiple blogs, would you mind if, instead of the video playing right in VOX, you were redirected to another site (VideoEgg, Revver…) to watch the video?

Any and all feedback would be appreciated… Also, it’d be great it if anyone would be willing to pass this question along… I’d be curious to see what as many people as possible thought. It will help inform how/where I’ll post videos in the future.

Thanks.

steelie

  1. Hmm, well I'll be honest… I usually hate watching videos at blogs. I usually skip over them, unless they're videos made by the actual person. I think that if I had to open up another window, I might subconsciously throw away the idea of watching it. = I wouldn't blame it on laziness, but rather on too much multitasking, because I know I have the tendency to do too much at once. I guess I need to fix up my internet priorities, haha.
I like it when the video is on the page I'm on. It's easy access and somehow… more appealing. ^_^

  2. I take it we are talking about Vox blogs? It's kind of a pet peeve of mine that you can only play "large" sized videos in blog and have to open a new screen for other ones. Generally I just "right click" + "open in new tab" in Firefox and watch it later when I get through my daily blog crawl.

  3. Lauren: I guess I should have specified that the type of videos I was talking about would be made by me… what I’m trying to figure out, ultimately, is where should I upload my videos? When all is said and done I’m going to have a few blogs on the go (VOX & LJ for me, one for family stuff, and one for parkour) but they are not all going to be on VOX. With VOX you can only use VOX’s native video player, iFilm, our YouTube. (I personally think the way that VOX forces users to search for YouTube and iFilm videos buy tag is garbage… if this service is going to be offered you should be able to post by specific URL… but I digress)There are better video hosting sites out there that are not VOX compatible but are compatable with other blog platforms (which allow unanamous comments — VOX doesn’t). Instead of me having to upload my videos to multiple video sharing platforms to satisfy all of blogs, would you mind if, instead of the video playing right in VOX, you were redirected to another site (VideoEgg, Revver…) to watch the video?I’m going to update my entry with a bit of this… thanks for the feedback.(Fish): Yes, I was originall talking about videos on VOX blogs as far as opinions here were concerned… but I guess this could apply to any blog you visit. Do you prefer the video to play right where you are or would you mind being redirected to another site (VideoEgg, Revver…) to watch them?
